The mission of the Jazz Arts Group is to serve as a national model for the support of America's indigenous musical art form through performances, educational programs, nurturing of professional musicians and commissioning new works.
What is the Jazz Arts Group?
The Jazz Arts Group (JAG) is America's oldest arts organization dedicated to the presentation of jazz. The Columbus Jazz Orchestra, the flagship ensemble of JAG, is considered one of the finest jazz orchestras in the world.
The Jazz Arts Group is one of the four major performing arts organizations in Columbus. The Columbus Jazz Orchestra presents over forty concerts each season at the historic Southern Theatre. The 2100 subscribers for the two CJO concert series (Swingin' at the Southern and The Great American Songbook) makes the CJO audience the largest subscription base for any jazz orchestra series in the United States.
JAG also presents the Firehouse Jazz Series, featuring small group jazz ensembles and world-class guest artists.
Through its educational programs, JAG makes a significant impact. Through outreach programs, guest artists, internships, pre-concert lectures, youth jazz groups, and the new Jazz Academy initiative, JAG provides the opportunity for thousands each year to experience America's art form, jazz.
